About the Brand
LEERA is a women led organisation which aims to provide artisans the ability to work, learn and gain the deserved confidence and independence by doing what they are skilled at. It also enables them to keep their heritage craft alive. LEERA - Livelihood Empowerment and Encouragement of Rural Artisans - was born in November 2020 amidst the pandemic which also posed as a relief to women artisans of Sujangarh. The term also wonderfully means 'pieces of fabric' in Marwari, the language locally spoken in Sujangarh, Rajasthan. The organisation is a joint effort between two young textile designers and an artisan herself. It was in 2018 when Disha and Kairavi reached Sujangarh for their college project and met the local women who greeted them by hands adorned with colours owing to their practice of the beautiful craft of Bandhani and Shibori. It was then when they decided to join hands with Amrita, an artisan, resident of Sujangarh, and self made woman who had broken out of societal barriers and paved her path to uplift and empower.
