About Karomi Crafts N Textiles

Karomi entered the handloom sector with one weaver in West Bengal, India in 2007. Today, Karomi works with over a hundred artisans creating quality textiles in design driven Jamdani, a traditional weaving technique of intricately woven patterns similar to embroidery. Each Karomi Jamdani is a labor of love. From concept to design to weaving, it combines the artistic bent of its founder, Sarita, with the centuries-old weaving technique of its craftspeople. Seamless weaving of the old with the new creates its signature whimsical look.

In recognition of innovation and skill in Jamdani weaving, Karomi's work was conferred with an Award of Excellence for Handicrafts by UNESCO in 2012 and 2014. The process of making a Karomi Jamdani is eco-friendly and cantered around community. From the use of natural fibers to emphasis on natural hand-dyeing, each product is environmentally sustainable. Harnessing the local weaving traditions economically empowers low-income artisans, helping ensure that the art form sustains.
