Story

"Roots" is a collection born from the study of local plant fibers that have been used for many years in Mexico and reflect a unique textile legacy of our country and culture. The fibers used are ixtle, jute, palm, and cotton for the warp. They are all Mexican plant fibers, and we believe this collection to be a tribute to Mexico, its traditions, and its textile culture.

This piece focuses on palm fiber; it comes from Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. It is transformed into this thin, voluminous fiber by skilled local hands. The palm capes inspire the design used years ago in Mexico, evidence of the rich and skilled local artisan legacy. The piece has a strong fall to highlight its most natural form of fiber. The secondary thread is jute, which works to create contrasts between textures. The technique is an essential part of the overall narrative of the artwork, so they are all weaved in traditional pedal looms. Each piece of the collection has a unique design, yet they all share the same narrative, fibers, and purpose.

All artwork includes framing with natural wood.
