Natural Elegance embodies The Leakey Collection’s Life-Style brand of Home, Health, and Beauty products, founded in 2002.  

The company blossomed out of a severe drought that devastated Kenya’s pasturelands from 1999-2001. While the men drove cattle north, the women needed help to provide food, clothes, and school fees for their children. Ingenuity born from living a lifetime in the bush among the Maasai, Philip Leakey created grass beads from a plentiful fibrous, hollow, drought-resistant grass so tough that even starving cattle wouldn’t eat it and Zulugrass Jewelry was borne. 

To create more work opportunities products must be developed with the Global Market in mind. From the beginning innovation and contemporary design utilizing all natural materials has distinguished the Leakey Collection’s expanding lines; Zulugrass Jewelry, Marula Facial Oil, Fallen Acacia wood Table- Top bowls, platters and accessories, Passementerie, and Gift. The most recent addition to the brand is a line of delicious jams, chutneys, pickled goods, chia, and honey all produced on their farm Olkerii.

A small endeavor supporting 100 families has evolved into an enterprise with operations scalable, orders depending, to provide work to over 1500 people in East Africa.
