The Burlap People was born in 2015 when Samriddh Burman returned from college in the States, intent on starting a company committed to sustainability, green living, and and a healthy dose of good vibes. He didn’t have to look far for inspiration—his parents had run a jute business for three decades. And so it all started with a duffel bag, the perfect accessory to throw over your shoulder for a quick weekend away. Handmade from 100 percent jute fiber and leather, this iconic duffel is both lightweight and sturdy. In the years since, The Burlap People has expanded to include a range of goods in jeweled earth tones, from totes to toiletry pouches to backpacks, all lovingly crafted by skilled artisans in a family-like environment. As the Burlap People grows—offering a range of ready-to-ship, made-to-order and custom goods—it remains committed to its namesake fabric, an ancient fiber that is 100 percent biodegradable.
